Fitness Requirements:

At Red Desert Trail Camps, we welcome runners of all paces, but we want to be upfront—this isn’t a hiking camp (unless we are climbing steep terrain!) To fully enjoy the experience, you should feel comfortable spending around 3 hours on trail during our big adventure runs on Friday and Saturday. Across the four days, we’ll cover 20 to 25 miles—a mix of runnable terrain, scenic climbs, and time to soak in the desert magic. Just a reminder, all of these runs are optional so you if feel like hanging around the ranch one day and skipping a run, please know that is always an option for you. This is YOUR camp. While this camp will absolutely build your fitness, you’ll need to arrive with a solid base. And if you’re craving more challenge, we’ve got bonus miles available each day. If you're not quite there yet but this camp is calling to you—we’d love to help you get ready. We offer personalized coaching and custom training plans to support your journey. You belong here, and we’ll help you arrive ready. Once you register, we’ll send a short questionnaire to learn about your current training, trail experience, and dietary preferences—so we can make your experience as comfortable and personalized as possible. If this sounds like your kind of adventure, we’d be honored to run with you.

Once you secure your spot, we will send a questionnaire to learn more about your training, trail running experience, and dietary preferences.

“I’ve had a few women reach out to me saying they aren’t in shape for this camp but really want to be. I love this so much. I want women to want to train for big, physical goals instead of aesthetically based goals meant to keep us small. If you need any help at all, with the running or strength training component, please reach out by filling out the form below. We can set up a time to talk and design a training program that works for you. Whether you need a coach to guide you weekly or just to check in once a month, we are here to support your trail running.”

thursday

january 22nd | 3-5 miles | 500' gain

After a quick meet and greet and chance to settle into our rooms at the ranch, we will head out for a short shakeout on the trails right out our front door, catching sunset on the way back.

The Trail Runs

We have at least one organized trail run per day. With 3 supportive trail leads, no one will ever be left on their own. We will accomodate different paces and will regroup on the trail at various spots on the run. WE are here to work hard but also to be together as a group and enjoy the beautiful landscape. We will try our best to stick to the itinerary below but reserve the right to make changes for any reason. Bonus miles and extra runs are always an option if this isn’t quite enough for ya…

friday

january 23rd | 8-9 miles | 2000' gain

Wasson Peak Loop in Saguaro National Park. Unforgettable views, saguaro forests, meandering washes, and challenging trails.

saturday

January 24th | 10 miles | 600' elev.

Sweetwater Preserve perimeter loop. After yesterday’s big climb, let’s do some runnable singletrack!

sunday

january 25th | 3-5 miles | optional

Optional goodbye run. Depending on how you are feeling after a few big days of running, we will have an optional run or hike that will be anywhere from 3 to 5 miles. If you feel like going for a walk instead, fantastic. You do you. We want everyone to challenge themselves this weekend AND also make the right choices for you.

A desert-style backyard with a winding gravel path bordered by rocks, tall cacti, and desert plants, leading to a red brick house with a mountain in the background at dusk.

Our headquarters for camp

We chose this award winning Arizonan dude ranch as a perfect backdrop for our Tuscon Trail Running Camp. We will be immersed in an authentic Western experience the whole weekend, including classic and modern ranch activities like horseback riding and rock climbing. The White Stallion Ranch offers southwestern cuisine, a saloon complete with saddle seats, and cowboy entertainment. The ranch also boasts a spa that offers massages, facials and access to the sauna and hot tub. The location is a perfect jump off spot for all the local trail runs we want to explore in the area, making our van trips to the trailhead short and sweet. Pack your boots for this one ;)

“Camp was a great way to learn more about serious trail running in a supportive and non-competitive environment. I was relieved that my fitness level was in the same ballpark as many of the other women, but I also valued the exposure to more hardcore athletes. That was a unique combination that I think might be hard to find elsewhere.”

FAQ

  • Trail runners of varying paces and abilities are welcome to camp. That said, this is not a hiking camp. Please look at the planned runs to make sure this is something you will be able to do. If you aren’t sure, reach out to us and we can figure it out together.

We plan our runs around the fitness and experience of our attendees. We hope everyone will be open minded and challenge themselves in a supportive, inclusive group. Our longest run will be at least 10 miles and while there is no time limit, out of respect for the other participants, please arrive to camp willing and able to take this on.

We want to challenge and support each other during this camp. We don’t expect you to be an elite athlete but we do want to make sure you are prepared.

All that being said, we are happy to offer different pace groups and bonus miles if desired.

  • There is a non-refundable $600 deposit due at registration.

Cancel before December 1st and receive a full refund minus the non-refundable deposit.

No refunds will be given for cancellations after December 1st, 2025.

Late cancellations make it extremely costly for us to find other participants and we are likely to take a loss. If you are concerned about a potential issue, we strongly encourage purchasing trip insurance.

  • Make sure to pack a variety of running clothing for both hot and cool temperatures as desert weather is still warm during the day but can be chilly at night. You need a hydration pack that can carry 2 liters of water. Pack your favorite running snacks and of course trail shoes. Don’t forget a bathing suit for the hot tub and also something a little nicer for dinner out on the town. And all the hats…

We will provide detailed preparation info before camp, including comprehensive packing list!

  • There will be a complimentary shuttle leaving Tucson Airport for White Stallion Ranch in the early afternoon on Thursday, January 22nd. Please plan your flights accordingly. If you can’t make our shuttle, feel free to arrange your own transportation at your cost. On Sunday the 25th, we will arrive at the Tucson airport by 10 am so plan your flights out accordingly.

  • Breakfast: Our breakfast includes a cooked-to-order menu as well as an extensive continental buffet. Our menu varies seasonally, but typically includes options like fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, toast, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, eggs, and breakfast burritos.

Lunch: If we aren’t out on a run, our daily lunch buffet can be enjoyed inside or on our patio. Choose between two entrees, several side dishes, and salads. We also have a salad and a sandwich bar, and fresh fruit is always available. Whether you want a hearty meal or a light lunch, we will make sure you’re re-fueled for your next activity.

Sack lunches will be provided if we are out on the trail through the lunch hour.

Dinner: Dinner is typically a buffet cookout with fresh meats, vegetables, sides, and salad. You’ll have your choice between two main entrees grilled outdoors, with vegetarian and vegan options on request. Delicious dessert options vary nightly. Expect to see classic American ranch-style foods, including hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled chicken, steak, pulled pork, corn on the cob, potatoes, grilled vegetables and jalapenos, potato salad, coleslaw, ranch beans, rice, hot rolls and tortillas, and salads.

  • One thing we learned from our own running camp experiences is although we loved spending time doing planned things, we also really wanted a few hours of down time. For those of you who may want to nap, have a second run, go into town or read a book on the patio, we have this time built in for you.
